No words of mine could adequately express what his music meant to me and to all who were in tune to the music of The Ethiopians. This episode is part 1 of 2 episodes dedicated to Leonard. In part 2, which will appear in a week or so, we present a live recording made October of this year (2011) at The Rocksteady Lounge in Los Angeles. On this night, a group of local DJs including myself, Boss Harmony (Dub Club/Punky Reggae Party), J & Nicki Bonner (Jan Disco Sound), Rocksteady Chris (founder of Rocksteady Lounge), and Nina & Victor (Rocksteady Lounge) spent more than two hours spinning Ethiopians music on vinyl, mostly original 7" pressings. In this first part, I play a couple dozen of my favorite Ethiopians tunes, sticking for the most part to lesser-known cuts rather than the mega-hits that everyone knows.
